Mahmudhoja Behbudiy (1875-1919)

Behbudiy is one of the leaders of Jadidism action in Turkistan. Subsequently, his post was changed from “clerk” (mirza) to mufti. He was born in 1875 in Samarkand. Behbudiy was a man who propaganded Jadid schools ideas and was also an initiator of such schools. He is an author of following books: “Risolai Jugrofiai umroni”, “Risolai asbobi savod”, “Kitobat-ul-atfol”, “Tarihi Islom”. They were written in Turkish (an old Uzbek language) and Persian languages.

Behbudiy was a founder of newspapers, such as: “Samarqand” and “Oina” (The mirror).

Behbudiy was a first playwriter and a founder of theatre. For the first time his play “Padarkush” (“Patricide”) was dramatized by himself (1911).

Behbudiy wrote more than 300 articles which were published in Turkistan`s newspapers ansd journals. Behbudiy’s life and works are studied by prof. of NUU B. Kosimov, A. Aliev, Sh. Rizaev, D. Rashidova and by E. Ollworth (USA) and I. Baldauf (Germany).
